GROW-topia

Dearest Kulas,

It is early in the morning and mommy cannot sleep. I take this opportunity to post this story of yours before it slips my short term memory. Hehe.

At your generation, you are hooked up with the latest gadget every Singapore kid might have.

I.P.A.D.

Yes, we bought this for you on your 5th Birthday. I may say it helped you a lot in your studies as well as to occupy your "boring" times. When everybody seems to have their own much needed time and do not have time to play with you.

Recently, you got addicted to this game, GROWTOPIA that it somehow Mommy's lame excuse not to spend much time with you. Actually, mommy even gave you a "reward" by not bothering mommy during her work at home through your continuous negotiation to purchase gems from iTunes.  Unknowingly, after 2 weeks of linking my credit card account, you have discovered that you can purchase additional gems without letting me know.  Daddy got to know this purchases when he checked his email and there were 18 daily purchases you had for the past week.

Daddy called me on 26th June to verify if this are correct. Mommy has to checked the emails and call the credit card company to cancel it right away thinking that it might be a scam.

And You. Did you know what is reaction? You are all too worried. You asked mommy what is all about which mommy actually did not noticed until it finally came to my senses that you are the one responsible on this.  You are scared. I was upset.

I tried to calm myself as much as possible.  I asked you to come over to me for a detailed explanation and you were already crying. I cannot remember how many times you mentioned "sorry mommy." I asked you why you did not told me of this stuff as I am very lenient about you using your iPad.  All I hear was your cry and this words really melted my heart...

SORRY NA MOMMY, PLEASE FORGIVE ME NA PLEASE.

Awwww! I know this is just money coming in and go...and I should focus on your fault and scold you for not letting mommy know about it. I was trying to regain my parental authority but all I can do was cry with you.  Your maturity somehow touched my inner being (and most of the time you do.)  You straight away wanted to delete the app that has caused this additional expenses to us. I have proven so many times that moments like this, after six years of struggles just to be together, it was ALL WORTH IT.

We have to still impose penalty on your actions. Daddy said that you are bound not to use anymore the gadget. Until your negotiations skills has won over Daddy's firm decision not to let you touch again the iPad.  You are able to have a deal to use it but only on weekends and with one hour limit on each day. You never insisted on any additional requests and is very disciplined to follow the rules.

We got to spend more quality time together now and you now look forward to weekends. (I hope the reason changes as time goes by).  I am just super proud of you. ;)

I know that you will be a good man, Kulas. I just hope that, what Daddy and I wanted you to learn and understand is that we love you and all this disciplinary measures we imposed on you are for your own benefit.

GROW to be the BEST MAN you can ever be, and that would be the greatest reward we are grateful  to receive at the end of our lifetime. :)

Love,
MomC
